observation

Today I had a chance to go and watch a couple of orthopedic surgeries...I have been a nurse for 6 years and done mostly med/surg and I know now surgery is something that I do NOT want to do as a nurse....I watched the end of total knee replacement and then saw a total hip replacement. They actually completely pop the hip out of socket to remove the head of the femur and put a new one in...It was amazing what they can do and awesome to get a chance to see but the popping out of the socket thing made me a little nauseated and weak. My manager told me that I could go and see a couple back surgeries too but we will see, I get paid to do it, where else would you get paid to sit and watch surgeries...

BUSY

The last couple of months have been just way to busy for me. I recently started a new job....Not something that I thought I was ready for but the bills were started to pile up. I have not had to interview for a job in almost 6 years since I started at Holland Hospital except for the 3 months I was at Freedom Village...So I was extremely nervous about doing this but I made it through. The unit that I work on is an Orthopedic unit and the people for the most part are wonderful. The politics and the staffing are quite different here which makes me more thankful for the position that I am keeping in Holland (hoping to be back here in a few years). I have not worked full time since before JR was born so trying to do that on top of caring for the kids and Jim was a lot for me, especially with no family locally. Between Jim's mom and my parents we managed to cover the babysitting issue during my orientation. Then just before I started officially on the floor Emma was born. I had a chance to make it for that, :) I had been going into Holland about every weekend hoping it would happen, was not something that I wanted to miss. Elissa was induced the morning of August 16 while we were camping up by Jim's parents house. So that weekend I did a lot of driving. Thank goodness all went well. During this time too, I was heading to holland for Jacob to see the Pediatrician because of his snoring. There was one day he slept like 15 hours and then acted tired all day and still took a 3 hour nap. After seeing an ENT doctor they decided he had Obstructive Sleep Apnea and that he needs his tonsils out. His snoring was soo bad that to me it sounded like he was going to stop breathing all together, I could not stand having him next to me, yet I feared about it when he was not in the room by me. The Dr reassured me that he would not stop breathing but did say once the tonsils are out he will be a whole new person because he will actually sleep better. He is having this done in Holland the end of the month. Then finally on Sept 3, JR started his first day of preschool, it is always emotional doing that. So now we are to today, and hopefully I will now have a chance to keep up on this a little more. I am going to try and load a few pics of the last couple of months.
